A Safety Tip: Inform your credit card company that you don't want ANY Convenience checks, EVER! Put this request in writing and have your credit card company put it in your hardcopy file or include this request on your online file.
For those of you who don't know what convenience checks are, they are those slightly oversize checks often issued in groups of three or four that your credit-card issuer sends to encourage you to transfer a balance, make a purchase or tap your account for extra cash. Your credit card company might include them in your statement or send them separately. These checks can be sent out at any time which can be very dangerous and costly.
The primary reason why you should inform your credit card company that you don't ever want any convenience checks is to prevent a thief from stealing them out of your mail, using them then sticking you with the bill. Convenience checks are dangerous because you don't have the opportunity to watch for them because they are sent out at the credit card company's discretion so they could go missing and you'd never know until you saw your credit card statement. While we're on the subject of convenience and checks, if you are going to pay a bill or for a product over the phone you might want to try
electronic check processing.
